Medical Certificates

Medical certificates are available during a consultation with a doctor provided there is evidence that you are medically unfit for work. It is not legal to backdate medical certificates.

Universities and Centrelink usually have specific forms and will not accept generic medical certificates. If you need a specific form completed, please bring it with you to your appointment.

Results

When your doctor orders investigations it will usually be expected that you return to discuss the results in person. The results of your tests are often a clue, rather than an answer, and further reviews are important for proper health care.

Your doctor is legally required to ensure results have been followed up appropriately and to address any questions or concerns that you may have. On occasion, our Practice Manger or Nurse may contact you to advise whether a followup appointment is required, however, they cannot read out results over the phone or discuss the meaning of your results. If you need to discuss your results it will require an appointment with a doctor.

Referrals

Referral letters require an appointment with a doctor. GPs are legally required to assess whether a referral to a specialist is necessary. Not all medical issues require specialist involvement and referrals cannot be provided without a valid medical reason. Therefore, an appointment is required to issue in order to provide a valid referral.

Please note, it is illegal to backdate referral letters and this will never be done by doctors at Sydney Olympic Park GP. If you attend a Specialist appointment without a valid referral letter you will not be able to claim the Medicare rebate for that appointment. Please check that you have a valid referral before you attend your appointment.

You can see a Specialist without a referral letter. In this case, you pay the full fee and do not receive any rebate from Medicare.

Prescription Renewals

Prescription renewals will usually require an appointment with your doctor. If you are taking a prescription medication it is your doctor’s responsibility to ensure the medication is still required, the dose is correct and it is not causing side effects.

Drugs of Addiction

Our doctors do not prescribe drugs of addiction to new patients for any reason. This includes codeine, and other opiate pain relief, as well as benzodiazepines such as Valium and sleeping tablets. If you are visiting Olympic Park, and have forgotten your medication, please contact your usual prescribing doctor who can fax a prescription to a local pharmacy.

If you have moved to Sydney Olympic Park, and would like us to take over the prescription of your regular medication, please contact us before your current supply runs out so we can liaise with your previous treating doctor.

Reminders and Practice Information

We are legally required to contact you regarding urgent or serious medical issues and, in these cases, we must make every attempt to make contact with you. Please let us know if you have discussed your results with another healthcare professional.

For non-urgent issues you can choose whether or not to receive reminders. We will not contact you, except in case or emergency, without your consent. If you change your mind about receiving reminders please let our Practice Manager know.

Zero Tolerance Towards Violence

Our goal is to provide high-quality, evidence-based, long-term health care to the local community, and visitors, to Sydney Olympic Park without prejudice. However, any verbal threats or physical abuse toward our staff members will not be tolerated. Any person doing so will be asked to find another health professional.
